Egypt Gas Pipeline Bombed Again

A gas pipeline located in Arish, Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, Monday (9/3), re-bombed. The pipeline explosion blamed on armed groups for the 14th time since February.

The bombing occurred in the area of el-Midan, 17 kilometers southwest of downtown Arish. There were no fatalities in this incident. The explosion caused only minor damage due to gas in the pipeline has not been pumped out since the last blast on March 5. Although strongly suspected the blast was carried out by armed groups, until now no group has claimed responsibility.

Egypt is already doing an experiment to pump gas to Israel and Jordan in February after an interruption caused by multiple attacks hit the pipe. Yet, ironically, the natural gas deal between Egypt and Israel signed in 2005 and it has a price which was considered by critics far below market value.

Before the explosion on the pipeline was re-occur, should provide 80 percent of Egyptian natural gas to energy supply in Jordan and Israel about 40 percent for the same purpose.
