Hundreds of area in southwest China's Tibet autonomous region, recently, reportedly staked out geologic hazard of landslides. According to official sources the local as well as local geologists based on a geological survey, detected as many as 8930 points with 280 000 inhabitants in Tibet potentially affected by disasters like the collapse of buildings and landslides.
Ngawang, a regional leader and the Tibetan resources department, said the potential for catastrophe losses estimated at up to 9.1 billion yuan or U.S. $ 1.4 billion. According to him, Tibet is also a region lagging behind in terms of disaster monitoring, prevention and relief.
