Special envoy to Syria Joint United Nation - Arab League, General Kofi Annan said he would urge the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and representatives of the protesters to immediately hold a dialogue to seek a political solution, which also put an end to violence.
Former UN Secretary-General met with Arab League chief Nabil El Araby in Cairo, Egypt, on Thursday. Annan was scheduled to travel to Syria on Saturday.
After meeting in Cairo, Annan told reporters that the hostility and violence must be stopped, and asked the Syrian government to allow UN humanitarian activities in the country.
Annan also said he hoped no one is thinking seriously about using force, and the further militarization will only make the situation worse. He also rejects any armed intervention, which is supported by several Arab countries. Annan's visit to Syria will be the first by a UN envoy since the beginning of anti-government protests in March last year.
