Six Gulf states to close the Embassy in Syria

Six Arab Gulf states will close their embassy in Syria in protest at the crackdown on the country for a year, said the head of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdullatif al-Zayani Friday (3/16/2012) morning.

Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait to take these steps, because the regime was "slaughtering his people, chose the military option and reject all initiatives aimed at seeking solutions to the crisis," he said.

Zayani asked the international community to "act promptly and decisively to stop the killings and massacres in Syria as well as a gross violation of the dignity and legitimate rights of Syria."

Prior to this decision together, the two GCC states - Saudi Arabia and Bahrain - have announced the closure of their mission in Damascus. Saudi Arabia to take that step on Wednesday (3/14/2012) and announced the return of Syrian diplomats, followed next day by Bahrain.

Saudi Arabia has been very critical of the Syrian regime. Last August, it withdrew its ambassador from Damascus and the Syrian ambassador expelled.

Five partners in the GCC do the same thing to denounce the "mass massacre" committed by the Syrian regime.
